How to become a TUAC Member

To become an official Temple University Anime Club member, all you need to do is pay membership dues. Which are 6 dollars for one semester, and 10 dollars for both.

By being an official member to the club, you are allowed to go on certain activities exclusive to paid TUAC members, like the New York Trip. And at the end of the semester, only paid members can vote for the Anime they’d like to view next semester.

And when paying for your memberships, make sure you spell out your name for the Treasurer, we wouldn’t want to put the wrong name on the card right? Also, for those of you who have paid, I’ll be adding you to the symplicity Temple website as an official member, so I need to know your official name too if it’s different from the name on the membership cards!

If you have any questions about due, you can e-mail our Treasurer Sam at sespo@temple.edu

*Memberships are still being made, please waait

    Committees and Assistants

At the moment, we have a good number of people in the Art Committee, but if you’re still interested in helping out, don’t hesitate to e-mail me for more information!

Another committee who will eventually need some help if the Public Relations headed by our PR head, Bri Hammond. The goal of this committee is to help get the club’s name out there to the masses and works to organize and advertise all club activities and events. Again, only some dedication to the club is needed, you’ll simply follow what Bri asks. You can contact her at tua75274@temple.edu

The Sales/Acquisitions Committee, Victoria Holmes is the girl you see sitting in the back selling candies and drinks in the back of the room! Think of this committee as the merchants of club. She’ll eventually be needing some help with unpacking candies, setting up shop, and for substituting if she is not present! She can be contacted at tub75983@temple.edu

Make sure you support the club by purchasing goods from her! We don’t make that much money XD

If you’re showing ANY interest in any of the Committees or Assistant positions, please let us know at our club meeting on Thursdays or e-mail me at TempleAnimeClub@gmail.com!

  • Let's not get anything done TUAC announcements!

    Curse you random raaain!!

I had a great time on the New York Trip! Everything from fighting the rain in the humid weather, getting angry at random subway stations, getting lost and separated, to super awesome fun shopping for Anime and Japanese goods, and singing hardcore at Karaoke!! :D I hope everyone else also enjoyed themselves and are able to get along just fine~

And I also hope everyone had a good sleep and are enjoying a time of recovering in their beds to prepare for upcoming schoolwork and tests!

And don’t forget, the Cosplay Game Night is THIS Tuesday!

Another random news, I managed to mess around with the listserv e-mail, and it shouldn’t delete any users off the mailing list anymore! But if you do know anyone who’s been kicked off the mailing list and wanted to be back on, do forward them to my e-mail~

And let’s have a rundown on this week’s announcements!
    -Date, Time, Location of Meeting
-Movie Night Suggestions – Dub Night! –
-Halloween Cosplay Game Night – October 27th
-Shofuso Fall Cleanup – October 31st
    -St. Jude’s Crew’s Up ‘til Dawn – November 1st

Here’s the when’s and where’s of this week’s official meeting.

    Date: Thursday, October 29th
    Time: 5:30pm to 9:00pm
    Where:  Barton Hall (BB) 305

Yeah, let’s try not to be locked out again shall we? ><;; (I still hate this building!)

Here are the series we’ll be watching!

    Soul Eater (16-17)
Gurren Lagann (18-19) (We skipped episode 16, a recap episode)
    Fate/Stay Night (16-17)

Man, that was quite a watch last week! Apparently no one (asides a few others) in Shibusen can take a test (that reflects our struggles with midterms? o_0). We finished the first arc and did a TIME SKIP 7 years later to super dramatic plots! And Shiroh “entered” Saber to fight a dragon, wat.

    Movie Night Suggestions

Every semester we try to have a movie night! The way we do this is to have members to suggest a movie title, and at the end (a week or two later) we all vote on which movie everyone wants to see for that night!

Also keep in mind, if you’re suggesting a movie, make sure you either possess it, or are able to download it! You would be the one responsible for bringing it to the Movie Night meeting!

When suggesting a movie, please think of movies that everyone has definitely not watched it! No super popular movies like for example, Final Fantasy Advent Children, or Spirited Away. We want to explore and watch new things right? ;)

To make watching Anime into a different watching experience, we’re also making this a DUB NIGHT! This means we’ll be watching English (or anything non-Japanese) at their best and worst! Don’t forget all dubs aren’t that bad ;) Gotta give them a chance ne?

We’ll still be accepting Movie Night suggestions one more time next week! And this time, when I pass out the suggestion sheet, please include your name with the movie suggestion, so we know who suggested in the first place!

If you’re unable to make it to club meeting, you can e-mail me the movie night suggestion at TempleAnimeClub@gmail.com

  • A Word from Will on the New York Trip

Hey guys, Will here, and I wanted to offer some advice to those of you who are planning to go on the New York Trip on the 24th of this month.

As I stated in club, the first New York Trip I went on took every last cent of the one hundred dollars I took with me, and with stores like Kinokuniya and Book Off, there's no surprise as to why my wallet slimmed down rapidly. During the second trip, I took two hundred dollars to make sure I had enough money to afford everything I both wanted and needed, but I ended up spending barely over $80. In part, the reasons as to why I spent less money on my second trip can be attributed to three factors.

    1) I wasn't really looking for anything specific, so I had less desire to want and spend my money on frivolous items.

    2) The variety of stores we went to on the second trip was different than the roster from my first trip, and the stores where I did want to spend money I already knew what they had in stock, making it easier for me to make decisions on what I wanted to buy and where I could find it for cheaper prices.

    3) We ended up staying in New York on my second trip for about an hour less than we did during my first trip, and I was too busy hanging out with my friends on the trip while cracking jokes and helping Andrew Valentino make a documentary about the trip (It's on youtube) for me to care about shopping too heavily.

Overall, here's a general idea of how you might want to consider setting up your budget for this trip.

    1) We have provided information about the stores available to be voted on and once you have voted on the stores you guys want to see, you will be able to research them a bit more and see what products they sell.

    2) By knowing what you want or are looking for ahead of time, you can calculate roush estimates of the cost and then build a basic budget around that estimate. Your estimate should include the money you want to spend on the subway pass, karaoke, and food.

    3) Once you have your estimate, you can figure out how much extra money you want to bring. For example, let's say you estimate that you will need $100 for the subway pass, food items, karaoke, and basic merchandise you want to buy. You then can decide how much of a money buffer you should bring with you, maybe about twenty dollars if you feel there may be that item that just happens to catch your eye and break your $100 budget.

I use the above method for calculating how much I wanted to bring on my second trip and I had plenty of scratch left over by the end of the day, so I'm sure my method should be able to help out those who use it. Also, here are a few other tips that aren't money related.

    - Weather in New York can vary greatly: it can go from being cold enough where your ears sting to humid and uncomfortable in a jacket, so make sure you bring clothing that keeps you warm but allows you to stay cool in humid weather.

    - Stay with the group!!! The officers (myself included) are going to be worried about keeping schedule and finding each location easily, so all you members have to do is follow us and make sure you do not get separated from us.

    - Arrive at the campus meeting spot before the scheduled time (by at least fifteen minutes). Yes, it is very early to do that, but if you get up early and arrive before schedule you can exchange numbers ahead of time and get to know people better so that if you happen to get lost, you're just a quick phone call away from finding the group again.

    - Most importantly, be prepared to have fun. Everyone going on the trip is your friend whether you know it or not. If you haven't talked to certain people in club yet, the trip is always a great time to do so. Every one of the officers is approachable, and I'm sure that the members wouldn't be attending if they weren't eager to meet other people as well. Are we going to be busy that Saturday? Yes, but I purposely chose a day that (hopefully) goes past all of our midterm exam dates so that we don't have to worry about that obstacle while trying to socialize with our group and enjoy going to restaurants, karaoke, and the wide variety of stores available to us once we decide on the roster.

    Hope this helps guys!!!
